This winter my daughter and I designed and built a bird feeder made almost entirely of organic matter. In an effort to reduce on plastic and reuse what is already around us, we made the bird feeder from scrap wood we found in our back yard and an eye bolt I picked up from the local hardware store. The bird feed is inside a bored out branch that rests on a slice of wood, and both held together with an eye bolt, nut and washer. The platform is large enough for birds to stand on while feeding.

We do get occasional visitors but interestingly not many. The feeder blends in really well with the surrounding area so I’m curious if the feeder doesn’t stand out enough. Or perhaps we need to change the feed itself? The wood is also breaking down as can be seen in the photo. But that was the point!
